A Very Merry Falmouth

Now that we’ve digested our turkey, we can finally warm up to the idea of celebrating all of our favorite December holidays. This week, the Town of Falmouth and the Falmouth-Cumberland Community Chamber of Commerce sponsor the local holiday kick off ‘Very Merry Falmouth.’ Festivities kick off Thursday, December 1st, and last until Saturday, December 3rd, so you’re bound to find something that catches your eye and fits in your schedule!

THURSDAY

Beginning on Thursday, December 1st at 5:30pm, the 30th Annual Falmouth Community Tree Lighting will take place in Village Park. There will be cookie decorating, refreshments, arts and crafts, and most importantly, an appearance by Santa Claus himself! Be sure to come by early, as the event is only scheduled for an hour, and has been explained by many as something you won’t want to miss.

FRIDAY

The festival continues on Friday, offering the ‘Parent’s Night Out’ from 5pm-9pm at Centerpoint Martial Arts. These saints are willing to take your little elves off your hands so you can go enjoy some of the adult oriented events the festival has to offer! They’ll have pizza and a variety of games for all of the little ones to enjoy. Be sure to plan ahead though, because you’ll need to call and sign your kiddo/s up in advance by contacting Centerpoint. Further info can be found by following this link.

While those little elves are having fun at the Centerpoint workshop, get your 21+ friends and family together to check out the Holiday Happy Hour, which will take place in the Falmouth Event tent at Shaw’s Plaza on Route 1. This tasting event will feature local breweries and chefs, accompanied by live music by the local band Sugarbush. Tickets are $20 and you can buy them by following this link. Don’t feel guilty for indulging, because 20% of the proceeds will be donated to the Falmouth Food Pantry so less fortunate families can have a happy holiday too.

Lastly, there will also be FREE horse-drawn wagon rides on Route 1 from 5:30-8:30 Friday night as well! Enjoy the Christmas lights lining route 1 from the cozy comfort of the horse-drawn wagon. It’s a unique perspective you shouldn’t miss, and this won’t be your only opportunity. Since this is such a hit, the festival provides free horse-drawn wagon rides on Saturday as well, from 11am-4pm.

SATURDAY

The Saturday line-up of festive activities has something for everyone. This year the festival is offering a new event, the Ugly Sweater Merry Mile! All participants should sign up here, throw on their most atrocious holiday sweaters, and meet at Maine Medical Partners on Bucknam Road for the race kick-off at 9am. It’s sure to be a hit, and a returning tradition each year. Plus, it will make you feel a little less guilty about all of the treats you’re bound to eat later on during the festival. Feel free to include the kids too, as Santa is sure to make an appearance!

Speaking of which, Santa and his elves will be perusing Route 1 all day (from 10am-sunset) on their very fancy new toys... Segways! They were so excited because they got them for Christmas last year, that they just can’t stay off of them. They’ll be visiting stores, tents, and all of the different festivities taking place throughout the day, so be sure to stop and say hello! A special source told us that if you’re on the nice list, they’ll have a special gift for you.

There will also be free holiday movies at Flagship Cinemas from 10am-12pm. Cozy up with some buttery popcorn and enjoy a variety of your favorite classics. After the movies are complete, an array of rescue vehicles will be lined up in the parking lot for the little ones – and their parents – to look at while they talk to our local heroes. Some will even have the option for you to hop into the driver’s seat to take photos and see for yourself just what it’s like to drive one of those fancy vehicles.

Last, but certainly not least, the festival will wrap up with the Chili, Chowder, Soup and Stew Cook-Off at the Very Merry Falmouth Event Tent at Shaw’s on Route 1. Come hungry, because for just $10 per person you can taste all of the contending treats and cast your official vote for the highly sought after People’s Choice Award. 20% of each ticket sold will be donated to the Falmouth Food Pantry to help feed locals in need over the holiday season. You’ll be tasting the crème de la crème from local restaurants and food purveyors while supporting a great cause. How can you go wrong? Get your tickets here

Be sure to check out the Very Merry Falmouth website to read further details, purchase tickets, and more. We’ll be checking out a few of these events, and we hope to see you there!
